Host plants:
The larvae feed on Artemisia herba-alba.
Habitat:
Heterogynis andalusica inhabits semiarid landscapes with Artemisia herba-alba, e.g. rocky slopes, barrancos, garigues and dry pastures.
Life cycle:
The larva develops over the winter until March. The moths occur usually in March and April. In late March 2019 (after a warm winter) I recorded only a few fully-grown larvae and only a few moths. Most cocoons have been already empty and the eggs already hatched. Oviposition occurs within the female cocoon. The young larvae aestivate and develop from autumn to spring.
Remarks:
Heterogynis andalusica is endemic to Andalusia (Spain) and is known only from very few semiarid areas especially in the eastern part (e.g. Sierra de Baza, Sierra de Alhalmilla).
