Host plants:
The caterpillar lives on beech (Fagus), rarely according to literature also on oak (Quercus).

Habitat:
Drepana cultraria inhabits beech forests or mixed beech forests.

Life cycle:
The pupa hibernates. The moths fly in two generations from late March to early June and from late June to September. The caterpillar lives from May to October.

Remarks:
Drepana cultraria is widespread in the beech forests of Europe. It penetrates apparently only little into Asia (e.g. Asia Minor).
