Host plants:
The caterpillar lives according to literature on Thymus species (Thymus herba-barona).
Habitat:
Scolitantides barbagiae inhabits grasslands, shrubbery rich cliffs, bushy terrain, clearings in sparse forest and similar places. I found the butterfly in the central mountains of Sardinia at 700m above sea level along with Zygaena corsica in a shallow, dwarf shrub-rich terrain.
Life cycle:
The caterpillar overwinters. The moths fly in a single generation in May and June.
Remarks:
Scolitantides barbagiae is endemic to Sardinia and occurs here only in the central mountains (Gennargentu) from 700m to 1500m.
