Turanana taygetica (Rebel, 1902)

Host plants:
The larvae feed on flowers and fruits of Acantholimon species (Plumbaginaceae).

Habitat:
Turanana taygetica inhabits alpine, scree-rich or rocky slopes usually above 1600m up to the summit regions in about 2400m. Imagines are sometimes observed away from their larval habitats some hundres metres below.

Life cycle:
The pupa hibernates. The imagines fly in June and July with peak in late June. The eggs are deposited singly on still young flower shoots in wich the larvae live afterwards. They are well camouflaged and change sometimes the flower/fruits when fully consumed. Pupation should occur in the litter or at the base of the host plant (where there are always dead leaves).

Remarks:
The taxon is endemic to the Greek Peloponnese (Mount Chelmos and Mount Taygetos). The closely related taxon endymion occurs in Anatolia and is nowadays seen as a species of its own.
