Habitat:
Ephippiger cunii inhabits dry and warm pastures with (dwarf) shrubs up to 2200m asl.
Life cycle:
The animals are observed on the gound or on dwarf shrubs/herbs. The adults live until November. I recorded oviposition several times in the soil. The ovipositor is inserted vertically in the ground, e.g. in a small tussock or other low vegetation. Open soil spots are obviously not essential.
Remarks:
Ephippiger cunii occurs in the eastern Pyrenees and adjacing regions (Catalonia) in Spain and S-France.
The taxon is most often considered a subspecies of Ephippiger ephippiger (= Ephippiger diurnus).
