Habitat:
Zeuneriana abbreviata inhabits mesophilic to humid, vertical richly structured habitats in the open landscape and in semi-open environments. Best habitats are often seldom grazed pastures with stands of brooms and Pteridium aquilinum, forb fringes, woodland margins, swamps and similar sites more, between sea level and app. 2000m.
Life cycle:
The adults appear from early summer to autumn. In most cases it is the male singing that draws attention to a population. The animals are usually very shy and often live near the ground in the dense vegetation. But in the morning or when the sun breaks through the clouds on a cool day, they are often seen sunbathing freely on the plants.
Remarks:
Zeuneriana abbreviata is endemic to the western Pyrenees and its northern foreland. The distribution starts in the central French Pyrenees and runs westwards to the Atlantic coast. In the lower west Pyrenees Zeuneriana abbreviata extends to the Spanish side. In the north it extends along the coast almost to the latitude of Bordeaux (Bassin d'Arcachon).
