Nutrition:
The species feeds on plants and other insects. I watched a female feeding on a caterpillar.

Habitat:
Metrioptera caprai inhabits higher growing places that are interspersed with dwarf shrubs (Juniperus). It lives on sunny mountain slopes between app. 1300 and 2200m.

Remarks:
Metrioptera caprai is endemic to the Apennines (Italy) and occurs there in several subspecies. The images from Monte Terminillo (Rieti) show the nominate subspecies.
