Host plants:
The larvae feed on Rubus chamaemorus and probably also Polygonum viviparum and some Ericaceae.
Habitat:
Boloria freija inhabits bogs, wet tundra and open birch or pine forest with clearings.
Life cycle:
The adults occur most often in June and early July, in cooler years, higher altitudes or the very north until mid- or even late July. The larvae hibernate twice.
Remarks:
Boloria freija is found around the Arctic (Holarctic distribution). In N-Europe it is the most common species of this group and is recorded southward to central Sweden (north of the large lakes). In N-America it also reaches quite southerly latitudes in the Rocky Mountains.
