Host plants:
The larvae feed on Poaceae and Cyperaceae (Carex) of their habitats.
Habitat:
Erebia bubastis inhabits similar places like the closely related Erebia manto: mesophilous pastures and slopes with at least partial higher-growing vegetation (grasses etc.) between about 1200 and more than 2300m.
Life cycle:
The larvae hibernate twice (the first time in L1m then in the penultimate (=third) instar. Prior to the first hibernation the larva only consumes the egg ehell. The adults fly between July and early September. They lay their eggs like E. manto often singly in some decimetres above ground on dry and living fruit stands and flowers (e.g. Knautia), but also lower down on grasses.
Remarks:
Erebia bubastis is closely related to Erebia manto and replaces that taxon in parts of the more southern west Alps. It is currently known from Switzerland (eastern Valais, northern Ticino and southwesternmost Grisons), Italy (Cuneo province) and France (Savoie and Isère). It differs also by genetics and the shape of the valvae.
