Habitat:
The thermophilous species inhabits herbaceous mountain meadows, nutrient-poor grasslands and forest clearings with partially higher-growing vegetation.
Life cycle:
The adults occur between June and October, most individuals only from July. The animals are ususally found resting on herbaceous vegetation.
Endangerment factors:
The biggest endangerment factor is nowadays the reforestation of the often quite limited habitats after abandonment of a modest management of the sites. On the other hand intense management (mowing more than once, intense grazing) can push back Micropodisma salamandra quickly, too.
Remarks:
Micropodisma salamandra occurs in Southernmost and Eastern Austria as well as in Slovenia and Croatia.
