Habitat:
Ochrilidia sicula occurs in coatal dunes and sandy areas in coast-near inland with stands of Ammophila and Elymus grasses.
Life cycle:
The adults can be found in most months of the year. I met only a few adults in late April 2023, but many larvae of various instars. The animals rest and feed on the grasses and are easily flushed.
Endangerment factors:
Ochrilidia sicula has been pushed back severly by agricultural and touristic intensification and overbuilding of all kind. Thus the few remnant populations are threatened by extinction nowadays.
Remarks:
Ochrilidia sicula is endemic to Sicily. Today, it is still found in a few sites along the southern and southeastern coast.
