Nutrition:
The animals feed generally on plants.

Habitat:
Schistocerca gregaria inhabits open areas such as dunes, ravines, rocky slopes, grasslands, oases, fallow land or agricultural landscapes.

Life cycle:
I met the adults in Gran Canaria and La Gomera in December and in Fuerteventura in February. Schistocerca gregaria can sometimes migrate in large numbers from North Africa to the Canary Islands or Southern Europe.

Remarks:
Schistocerca gregaria is present for example in southern Asia, Africa, Madeira and the Canary Islands. Occasionally it migrates into Southern Europe.
