Habitat:
Sphingonotus azurescens inhabits places with much open soil from dunes to agricultural landscapes and rocky areas.

Life cycle:
The adults appear in summer and autumn. They are good fliers.

Remarks:
Sphingonotus azurescens is endemic to the southwestern part of the Iberian Peninsula, i.e. from Malaga in the southeast to N-Portugal in the northwest. Sphingonotus azurescens is larger and shows a better developed black stripe on the hindwings than the vicarious S. morini.
