Habitat:
Platycleis montana inhabits dry and hot steppe grasslands in the lowlands.
Life cycle:
Platycleis montana appears as imago quite early in June. In hot years you may not encounter any individuals already in September (e.g. E-Austrian Steinfeld in 2017), while in other individuals may also live up to October.
Endangerment factors:
Platycleis montana is heavily endangered in Europe. In Eastern Central Europe it has already lost most habitats, most often due to abandonment of extensive grazing and subsequent bush encroachment and densening of the vegetation (also in nature reserves), agricultural intensification (many habitats have been turned into arable land) and overbuilding (urban sprawl, industry etc.).
Remarks:
Platycleis montana occurs from E-Germany (very locally at the river Oder) and E-Austria across the steppe belt of E-Europe and S-Russia to E-Asia.
