Host plants:
The caterpillar lives polyphagous on deciduous wood. I found them often on Salix, Prunus, Crataegus and Quercus.

Habitat:
Colotois pennaria inhabits deciduous woods rich habitats of all types from forests to gardens.

Life cycle:
The eggs hibernate. The caterpillars live from April to June with a peak in May. The moths emerge only in the autumn and fly from mid-September to late November.

Remarks:
Colotois pennaria is apparently widespread Holarctic. It is found from North Africa across Europe to east Asia (Japan) and also in North America.
