Host plants:
The caterpillar lives polyphagous on deciduous trees and some herbs, but preferres Lonicera and Rosaceae. I found caterpillars on Crataegus monogyna, Prunus spinosa, Rubus idaeus and in Valais in 2000m asl on Alchemilla mollis.
Habitat:
Crocallis elinguaria inhabits forest edges, clearcuttings, hedges, scrub and the dwarf shrub belt. It penetrates occasionally in the human settlement area.
Life cycle:
The egg hibernates and the caterpillar is mature until June, in the highest elevations still in early July. The moths fly from June to August.
Remarks:
Crocallis elinguaria is widely distributed in the Palaearctic and occurs from Morocco across Europe and temperate Asia to Japan.
