Host plants:
The caterpillars live on deciduous woods, preferably on Salix species (willow, especially Salix cinerea and Salix caprea), however, more rarely also on Populus, Betula and Alnus. I myself have found the caterpillars so far only on Salix.
Habitat:
Cabera exanthemata inhabits forests and other habitats that are rich in woody plants. The focus is in riparian forests, clearcuttings, forest edges and similar places.
Life cycle:
The pupa hibernates. The moths fly in a single to two generations, usually from late April to August (early September). The caterpillar is usually observed from August to October, but is surely to find already in late May and June.
Remarks:
The distribution is Holarctic. Cabera exanthemata is mostly quite common in Central Europe.
