Host plants:
The caterpillar lives on Clematis vitalba (Ranunculaceae), and occasionally other species of Clematis.

Habitat:
Hemistola chrysoprasaria inhabits riparian forests, thickets, forest edges and other areas with Clematis.

Life cycle:
The young caterpillar overwinters. I found them near the river Iller near Memmingen in September 2010. In winter, the caterpillar is resting freely on twigs. It is fully-grown in May or early June. The moths fly mostly from June to August, rarer still in early September. Eggs are laid in small turrets at the food plant.

Remarks:
Hemistola chrysoprasaria is distributed from Northwest Africa across Europe and most of temperate Asia.
