Host plants:
The caterpillar lives polyphagous on herbs of the cliffs. On the Kanisfluh I met caterpillars in early May 2010 on horseshoe vetch (Hippocrepis comosa), Potentilla sp. , and others.

Habitat:
Charissa glaucinaria colonized rocky areas and stony-rocky slopes. It is fairly common in the Alps.

Life cycle:
The caterpillar overwinters and the moths fly in a single generation from June to August.

Endangerment factors:
Outside the Alps, Charissa glaucinaria is endangered in many places (habitat loss), such as the Middle Rhine-Moselle region.

Remarks:
The very variable moths occur in the central, southern and Southeastern European mountains as well as in Asia Minor and the Caucasus. To the north it reaches Central Germany and southern Poland, but is absent in Baden-Wuerttemberg.
