Host plants:
The caterpillars live primarily on oak (Quercus). In addition, it finds itself sometimes on other deciduous trees such as Prunus, Salix or Alnus.
Habitat:
Hemithea aestivaria inhabits forest edges, oak-rich and dry slopes and other locations. Occasionally it reproduces in gardens.
Life cycle:
The moths fly in a single generation from late May to early August. The caterpillar overwinters and is mature in May.
Remarks:
Hemithea aestivaria has a Holarctic distribution (Europe, temperate Asia, North America). In Central Europe it is often quite common especially in lower elevations.
