Host plants:
The larvae are polyphagous, but often feed on Rumex, Artiplex or Chenopodium.
Habitat:
Discestra trifolii colonizes ruderal areas, field edges, embankments, roadsides, coastal sand dunes and similar habitats. Warm lowland habitats are preferred.
Life cycle:
Discestra trifolii flies usually two generations in Central Europe. In Southern Europe and the Canary Islands the moth is to be found almost all year round. The pupa overwinters. Most caterpillars are found in Central Europe in August/September, even if they appear overall from June to early October.
Remarks:
Discestra trifolii is widespread Holarctic: North America, Europe, North Africa and the northern and Central Asia.
