Eriopygodes imbecillus (Fabricius, 1794)

Host plants:
The caterpillar lives polyphagous on herbs and grasses.

Habitat:
Eriopygodes imbecillus colonizes herb communities, wetland edges, bushy, partially rocky slopes and pastures in the mountains.

Life cycle:
The caterpillar overwinters half-grown. On 03/10/2009 I found a caterpillar in the west Austrian Bregenzerwald resting in a clump of grass. In May 2011, I observed larvae at the same place which were concealed in the litter during the day. The moths fly from June to August. They are also active during the day and often found sitting on flowers or large leaves.

Remarks:
The distribution extends across some mountains of Europe and Asia (e.g. Pyrenees, Alps, Balkans, Bavarian Forest).
