Host plants:
Larix europaea (larch).

Habitat:
Syngrapha ain inhabits open subalpine larch forests.

Life cycle:
The small caterpillar hibernates and is then observed particularly in May and June. In Valais, I found caterpillars in last instar in early June 2010 in 2000m asl on lower branches in about 2m above ground. The moths fly in July and August. They are also active during the day and can be observed when visiting flowers.

Remarks:
The distribution extends across some mountains (e.g. Alps, Urals) in Europe and Asia to Japan. Syngrapha ain is dependent on the presence of larch.
