Host plants:
The larvae feed on Iris sp., especially Iris pumila.
Habitat:
Oxytripia orbiculosa inhabits dry and hot rocky slopes, woodland edges, embankments and similar places with the host plant.
Life cycle:
The egg hibernates. The young larvae live as leaf miners, but change into the rhizome later on. Pupation takes place in the soil in late summer. The moths appear in autumn (September/October).
Remarks:
Oxytripia orbiculosa occurs locally and rarely from SE-Europe (Hungary, Croatia, Romania etc.) to Japan. It is reputedly also known from Spain.
