Host plants:
The larva feeds on grasses. The literature mentions amongst others Carex flacca.
Habitat:
Photedes captiuncula inhabits most often moderately dry nutrient-poor grasslands. I know Photedes captiuncula from the S-Bavarian Allgäu Alps from an extensively grazed cattle pasture on limestone in about 1400m asl and Zygaena transalpina and Psophus stridulus as companions.
Life cycle:
The larva hibernates and the moths are on the wing between June and early August. They are often found in the sunshine on flowers.
Remarks:
Photedes captiuncula occurs locally in Europe (especially in the central part, in the south in mountain ranges) and in Asia Minor.
