Host plants:
The larvae are polyphagous, but prefer semi-shrubs like Genista or Cistus. I recorded them on Genista and Artemisia.
Habitat:
Polymixis argillaceago inhabits dry and warm habitats like garrigues, maquis or woodland edges and other scrub or shrubby pastures.
Life cycle:
The larvae live in spring between February and May. I recorded them occasionally in southern Spain between March and April. The whitish-green half-grown larvae are found on stems also during daytime. The mature larvae are more active at night. The cocoon is created in the soil and lasts until autumn. The moths fly mainly in September and October.
Remarks:
Polymixis argillaceago shows an Atlanto-Mediterranean distribution: NW-Africa, Iberian Peninsula, southern France and parts of Italy.
