Host plants:
The larvae are polyphagous in the herb layer.
Habitat:
Lacanobia splendens inhabits wetlands usually in the lowlands (up to about 800m in central Europe, but most often lower): bogs, fens, riparian habitats, lake shores, swamps.
Life cycle:
The moths occur in usually two generations: May/June and July/August. Especially in higher altitudes or cooler sites the second generation can be incomplete or miss totally. The larva occurs between June and early October. The pupa hibernates.
Remarks:
Lacanobia splendens occurs in temperate Europe and Asia to Japan. In Germany it is quite local and has been pushed back severely by the destruction of wetlands (e.g. Rhine valley).
