Host plants:
The caterpillar lives on Euphorbia species. I found them in the Pindos northwest of Grevena on Euphorbia myrsinites and in the District of Drama (both Northern Greece) on Euphorbia seguierana.
Habitat:
Simyra dentinosa inhabits pastures, dry slopes and other sunny places with the host plant.
Life cycle:
The pupa hibernates. The moths fly from March to May in a single generation. The caterpillars live from April to June in large groups of usually several dozen individuals. I found them several times in May in Northern Greece. Pupation takes place in a cocoon. The caterpillars are often parasitized quite heavily.
Remarks:
Simyra dentinosa is known in Europe only from the Balkans and southern Russia. It also occurs in the western and Central Asia.
