Host plants:
The caterpillar lives on the leaves, flowers and fruits of yarrow (Achillea millefolium).
Habitat:
Eupithecia icterata inhabits grasslands, dams and other extensive, fairly dry locations of the widespread larval host plant.
Life cycle:
The pupa hibernates. The moths fly from late June to mid-September, with a focus on late July and August. The caterpillars are found from August to October (maximum in late September/early October). I found caterpillars in grasslands of the eastern Swabian Alb in cloudy or foggy weather resting on the plant during the day in early October 2010. The caterpillars are fully-grown more active at night.
Remarks:
Eupithecia icterata is widespread in Europe and is also found in Western Asia (about Turkey).
