Host plants:
The larvae feed on species of Dianthus (flowers, fruits)
Habitat:
Hadena luteocincta inhabits rocky slopes, nutrient-poor grasslands and other dry-warm localities.
Life cycle:
The moths fly from May to July. The caterpillars can be found from June to September (maximum probably in late July and August).
Remarks:
Hadena luteocincta is widespread in Southern Europe. To the north, it is found only to the Southern Alps (South Tyrol, southern Switzerland) and in some inner alpine foen valleys. With Hadena wehrlii (Spain, Balkans) and H. persimilis (S-Balkans) two very similar species are found (status?) in Southern Europe.
The photographed larvae were kindly provided by Dr. Herbert Beck (ex Southern France).
